I am a firm believer in the non-partisan nature of the school board. The best decisions are made when there are multiple voices and perspectives in the room. Together in the board room, we wear Novi green, even as we wear blue, red, or another color on our own. Given that Novi is a “purple” city, I will honor my commitments to listening and critical thinking as I talk with fellow board members about important issues affecting the district. As such, I pledge to work collaboratively with other board members to:
- Ensure that all students have access to a well-rounded, top-tier educational experience that not only prepares them for success in their post-secondary lives, but also be informed citizens in a diverse and increasingly complicated world. To me, well-rounded means that students engage with STEM courses/activities as well as courses/activities in the arts and humanities.
- Provide students the support they need to thrive and meet their goals without sacrificing their health. A well-rounded education also means that mental health and school-life balance are central concerns when making decisions that impact student and teacher success.
- Engage in evidence-based decision making to find the win-win for everyone involved. What this means is I will ask questions, seek out multiple viewpoints, listen for understanding, and look at the data (both the numbers AND the lived experiences of those who may be affected by any decisions the board makes) before coming to a conclusion. This approach to decision making is particularly useful when working on budgets and trying to find novel ways to address fiscal constraints.
- Recruit, retain, and fully support the talented teachers and staff of NCSD. I have great respect for the professionals who have dedicated their careers to helping students achieve their goals. I also strongly believe in the public school system and will work to ensure NCSD has the resources it needs to empower students to reach their full potential.
